Amandine NACHTERGAEL
Teaching
Amandine Nachtergael (Pharmacist, PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences) is a permanent Research and Teaching Associate in the laboratory of Therapeutic chemistry and Pharmacognosy (Prof. P. Duez). She has teaching activities in the fields of pharmacology, pharmacognosy, phytotherapy and pharmacochemistry. These courses are taught at the faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy to bachelor and master students.
Research
Her work focuses on extraction and identification of natural modulators of DNA damage signaling and repair mechanisms and, on the phytochemical, pharmacological and toxicological study of plants, with an emphasis on those used in traditional Chinese and African medicines. She takes part of the work of the Belgian Federal Agency of Medicines and Health Products (Commissions of Herbal Medicines and Homeopathic Medicines). She conducts cooperation activities including research programs in Burkina Faso and Madagascar.
