Eric DUMONT
Teaching
teaches Fundamental and Applied Thermodynamics to engineering students (bachelor and master levels).
Research
Eric Dumont is a chemical civil engineer graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Mons (Belgium) in 1991. He started his career as a researcher in the field of optical methods applied to the characterization of thin layers. He studied metallic layers and ZnO layers deposited on float glass in collaboration with AGC Flat Glass, Belgian subsidiary of Asahi Glass Company. He got his PhD in Applied Sciences for a thesis entitled: « Characterization by optical techniques of the microstructure of non-homogeneous ZnO thin layers deposited on glass ». Then, he switched to the field of thermodynamic properties of refrigerants and their uses. Therefore, he developed a piece of software devoted to the computation of performances of refrigerating machines and heat pumps. Eric Dumont has been appointed senior scientist at the Thermodynamics Department of the Faculty of Engineering, Mons (Belgium) in 2007. His current researches are devoted to the monitoring and modeling of heat pumps (in collaboration with heat pump manufacturers and with Electrabel, Belgian subsidiary of the Electricity producer Suez), of innovative HVAC technologies (desiccant cooling, e.g.) and of multi-energy systems coupled to buildings.
