Research
Jef Wijsen is a professor at the University of Mons (UMONS) where he heads the research group on Information Systems. He received a PhD in Informatics from KU Leuven (1995) for research contributions in the field of temporal database systems. Jef Wijsen has internationally recognized scientific expertise in database theory and foundations of database systems. His publications of the past decade on consistent query answering (CQA) have appeared in top journals (ACM Transactions on Database Systems, Journal of Computer and System Sciences…) and peer-reviewed leading database conferences (ACM PODS, VLDB…). Together with P. Koutris (Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison, USA), he obtained a significant theoretical result on CQA in a paper that was awarded an ACM SIGMOD Research Highlight Award (2015). Jef Wijsen is a former member (2011-2021) of the editorial board of Information Processing Letters, and a former member (2011–2017) of the editorial board of The VLDB Journal. He has co-chaired the program committees of the International Symposium on Temporal Representation and Reasoning (2010 and 2017) and the International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management (2013). He has served on more than 100 program committees of peer-reviewed international conferences. In 2020, Jef Wijsen is ranked within the top 2% of scientists of his discipline, according to a study published by researchers of Stanford University.
