Marie-Georges OLIVIER
Prof. Marie-Georges Olivier is Full Professor and the Head of the Department of Materials Science Department of UMONS. In the field of the surface treatment, the Materials Science Department has acquired recognised skills in the synthesis of materials and of sol-gel surface coatings for replacing hexavalent chromium-based coatings. Having become an expert in selecting corrosion inhibitors and using electrochemical techniques for conventional anodizing, PEO and characterization, the Materials Science Department has developed new conversion treatments as well as adhesion promoters that are environmentally friendly. It has also specialized in the development of coatings that protect, are self-healing, anti-bacterial and are durable.
The Materials Science Department is active at the European level with 5 research projects (FEDER, INTERREG,…), Programmes d’Excellence (OPTI2Mat, FLYCOAT), Pôle Project (Agrosensor, BIO-AFP,…), ARC (SEALCERA, PROCOMAG) .
Under the framework of co-operation and development (PRD Project – ARES), it is taking part in creating a skills centre in Vietnam for developing surface treatments that are environmentally friendly for protecting metals. The centre will be reinforced during the period 2020-2025.
Prof. M. Olivier is BoA Member of the European Federation of Corrosion.
